Witbank General Hospital in a dire state
The state of Witbank General Hospital is a cause for concern for residents of eMalahleni, Mpumalanga. Residents say that patients are forced to sleep on the floor because of a shortage of beds in the hospital. The hospital is in a dire state. The challenges includes a shortage of water, structural problems, unhygienic conditions and limited resources.

Witbank communities suffering because of abandoned coal mines
Matters of the environment have been thrust into the spotlight as world leaders including President Jacob Zuma gathered in New York for the UN climate change summit.
Our own Morning Live Meteorologist Tsietsi Monare was among the professionals who formed part of the gathering which highlighted the need to balance economic development and environmental responsibility.
That dichotomy is evident across the globe and South Africa is no exception. The growing demand for energy has sparked a debate among environmentalists, government and mining bosses on the true cost of coal!
Ayanda-Allie Paine visited community members in Witbank, who say they're suffering because of abandoned coal mines.

Two teachers and three more pupils suspended at Witbank Technical School
Two teachers and three more pupils have been suspended at Witbank Technical High School in eMalahleni, Mpumalanga. This follows a protest against racism at the school, which led to the suspension of lessons last week. The allegations were made after five pupils were involved in a fight.
Two black learners were suspended and their three white schoolmates were allowed to continue with schooling.

Mpumalanga albinism case is back at Witbank Magistrates Court
As we have been reporting in our news bulletins - A second suspect in the albinism case is expected to apply for bail at the Witbank Magistrates Court this morning. It follows the killing of 13 year-old Gabisile Shabani, who was living with albinism and her one year-old cousin Nkosikhona Ngwenya. The striking medical workers at the Witbank hospital have called on the Premier Refilwe Tsipane to intervene and strengthen security at the health centre as a matter of urgency. They downed tools over the weekend after a patient was shot and killed in the ward. They now fear for their lives and that of other patients. Meanwhile, workers have gone back to work and operating as normal.
